In order to serve Jesus well we have to know what He expects from us. Our first morning together Erin led us in a study of Deuteronomy 10:12-22. She encouraged us to be focused on engaging with the Lord to become the resource that God will use. There is always a nagging voice in my mind saying that what I am doing is not good enough, but if I walk in the ways of the Lord out of love for Him and others in a way that results in service then I have done what the Lord requires and it is enough. I would define this as a distinction between school trips and preparing to serve Jesus. Serving Jesus requires that we focus on what He desires us to do and not just doing everything possible. Once we have found this focus in Biblical calling then we can rest in our identity God’s kids as a part of a family bigger than ourselves.
In the past, I have found myself focused on what I felt God had called me to independently, but boot camp is challenging me to consider myself a member of a global team. It is my responsibility to bring all that God has given to me to the team as gift.
When I hold back because of insecurity and fear then it is the whole team I am hurting, not just my own education or personal growth. As servants of God we are not alone in our education, forging forward for ourselves alone. We pursue our education in God’s word and in being servants for His Kingdom through dependence on one another, humbling ourselves and choosing to change.
