Slam in Mombasa Kenya

We put on a SLAM conference for 127 youth in Kenya. We hosted it in Mombasa, which is very close to the beach. We were able to facilitate a 2 1/2 day slam service camp. This was a really great time where the Lord moved in so many ways and so many hearts.

But, it was no easy thing through limited resources. We relied on God and his amazing grace that allowed for us to have this time.

As we have facilitated the slam camps this summer, we have grown and more and more autonomy, especially as trainees. In this, I mean that we responsible for putting on the slam conference by the first SLAM in kabonge, with leaders monitoring our work and still playing important roles like teaching the word. I feel I’ve grown so much in my capacity as a leader by stepping up and using who Lord made me to be when it comes to facilitating these camps as a trainee team.

When it came to hosting Mombasa, it was difficult as well because the Kenyan leaders experience hosting and being responsible for their first slam. They were in charge of many logistical things, and obviously there were challenges and big learning curves. Although the time could’ve been stressful, the Lord made up for where we fell short, and there was an immense amount of impact that this time had on the kids.

I was able to have a powerful time of prayer as lead of the intercessory in prayer team before this conference. And I knew that these kids were going to have such an impactful time and God really did show up.

I loved being able to be a part of facilitating a service project where we built a rocket stove for a lady who was deaf. This is my first time leading something like this, but I did try to engage my full self and give these kids an impactful experience as well as intentional time for who we were serving.

I got to know three boys who were in the service project group with me. They came from the western region of Kenya with their youth group Samson, who I met last year, (one of our slam leaders) is their youth group leader.

I got to have an intentional conversation with them asking them about their experience at slam, their relationship with the Lord and the impact scripture has had on our lives. Willam fidola, William Obama and Victor, were their names and I want to continue to pray for them as they devote themselves to God and learning his word. I hope to see them again, because I was also impacted by them.
