SLAM camp was awesome!
I absolutely loved hearing the testimonies of all the kids tonight. Their passion for the Lord was so evident. It’s cool for me to think that even though sometimes I doubted, our service to these kids DID have an impact on them. I hope it’s a lasting one.
I remember my first mission trip, first camp, first worship nights. The same kind of passion and desire for God’s kingdom. It’s good to be reminded of your first love in this way, watching your little siblings in Christ experience His goodness in the same ways you did at their age. I feel so much peace and awe at God’s masterful plan, feeling like I get a better picture of my own process of growth by watching these kids mature.
But it gives me even more hope for them, knowing that all kids do grow up – and it’s beautiful. God has so many great things in store that this team is looking forward to seeing. I can see visions of the lost being saved and the hurting being healed swimming in their eyes. It’s just the coolest thing to know that I get to encourage them in doing the best thing they could ever do, to serve the Lord.
So many of these kids have said I impacted them just through answering a question, sitting with them, hearing their stories, challenging them to live out scripture and watching them do it in amazing ways. I’m so grateful for the people who are my encouragers, the people who spurred me on to this moment, where I get to cheer on the youth that will one day be leading in my position. They truly are the light of the world. If I got to light one small candle in the city on a hill that Jesus says is their light, I’m satisfied that this week of service was worth the sacrifices. I just want to keep on passing on that light, watching it grow to light the whole world up.
