Overview of a Typical Day!

Right now I am in Uganda helping put on SLAM for around 200 youth. A typical SLAM day here in Uganda looks different every day, because in Uganda the people are event oriented, less time oriented like in America.

Here is an overview: SLAM starts off with prayer and songs. We are woken up from our tents with people singing, then we go straight to songs and prayer. After songs and prayer we have 20 minutes to get ready for the day and head to breakfast. From breakfast we then go to our morning session where we have praise and worship. In Africa, “Praise” refers to songs that allow people to dance and move around, “worship” refers to the slower songs, more reflective. After praise and worship, we hear an encouragement by one of the interns. We then move to service projects.

Yesterday I got to visit a school and teach a bunch of the younger kids a dance. After that we have lunch while we break out into small groups to discuss how the service projects impacted us. We then move into a free time, after we go to our evening session where we have praise and worship then hear Mr. Garner talk about our theme this week 1 Peter 2:9, Nu Nation. After the session we have dinner, small groups, then head into late nights. This is an overview of a typical day right now during a SLAM week and us interns are helping carry it out!

A big part of this trip is putting on SLAM for youth, and it’s incredible to participate in. We have done slam in America, El Salvador, Uganda, and we are about to in Kenya as well. It’s so amazing getting to see Gods Nation grow like this. Can’t wait to see more of all that God’s doing in the kids here. Till next time 🙂
