The Development Work of SLAM

I’ve had a misconception as a kid that ministry is solely focused on the people that are being served, rather than the ones doing the serving. This past week at SLAM, and the focus on being a light to the world and a Nu Nation has really emphasized for me the readiness and the importance that we know who we are and what we need to do so as to serve effectively and make a real difference.

Through the entire week, God continually revealed to me the calling that I have and the spiritual discipline that must encompass that. In ministry, there is this level of preparation that must take place. As we serve, we learn more about what God desires for us and are more exposed to the work that is set before us. When you jump into ministry, you are developing and growing through the process. It isn’t something you reach when you’re “done growing” — because the reality is, we never stop. We need to be pushed and further exposed to things that will help
us become more like Jesus and be discerning of how to respond in harder situations. Learning the word of God and being developed by him is a process that takes time, and giving ourselves to this ministerial work and letting God prepare us as we go will grow us in new ways.
