This year for slam, I was on the Late Nights team (the crew that creates and facilitates kits and games for students after the evening worship sessions). My first Summer Internship in 2021 and my second Summer Internship in 2023, I participated on the late nights team and to be frank … afterwards I never wanted to be on the team again. Lol. I don’t think any of the teams I was on at the time were able to have the kind of unity that my team had this time around. Our games and skits were nowhere near as meaningful as the ones we created this week and we prayed way less through the whole process than our team this week did.
The way our Late Nights team approached the creative process and the service to the kids, completely changed how I feel about Late Nights as ministry now. I now deeply appreciate the way that late nights can frame the entire day of service and learning God‘s word for the students. I am thoroughly looking forward to utilizing what skills, prayerfulness, and focus that my team developed through this week, abroad. It’s going to bring such a fulfilling joy to many youth and also concretize what they’re being taught from Gods word. I am thrilled to see that happen in Latin America and Africa.
