SLAM — A New Perspective

This week was different for me, because my roles didn’t include being directly with the SLAM students much (as I was in years past). I got the opportunity to serve by leading worship in the mornings and evenings, and performing and putting on Late Nights, the fun, improv skits and games after our evening sessions. Because of this, I didn’t get the opportunity to serve directly with the same students which is different from what I’ve experienced in the past. Still, working with middle and high schoolers is a challenge regardless of whether you’re working directly with them or planning things for them.

This past year, for my Professional Development experience (my hands on, on-the-job learning opportunity at my college), I worked with middle schoolers four days of the week. This gave me a lot of perspective and training, even being with this age SLAM students. I had a better idea of their humor, understanding, attention spans, etc. and thankful for that experience I had and I feel like it helped me perspective take as I planned and served them this week.
