This week to start off internship, we are helping lead SLAM. We are three days in, and I have joined in with hospitality, kids camp, and concessions. I am helping lead a kids camp at low income apartments, with a bunch of SLAM students and their leaders. Yesterday when we had our first day of service for SLAM, we showed and only had a few kids ready for camp. As the day went on kids started to trickle in and we got to join them into the games and activities we were doing. By the end of yesterday we had 23 kids and parents joining,or watching from the balcony. The whole apartment complex went from quiet, with only a few kids out in the morning, to lively and bubbly, hearing kids laughter and joy, in just 2 days. We still have two days of service this week at the apartment and are preparing for a water day tomorrow. I have also been so encourage by the way the students take charge, they have prepared activities, and do there best to put them on for the kids. They are attentive to the kids needs.
I think this week has just been placing my heart on the Lord, in the midst of being tried I know that I need to be present for the kids in front of me. In those moments it requires that I lean on the Lord and ask for his strength. Being in the midst of seeing poverty, sickness, and the injustices of this world this summer, having a posture of humility where I can come back to the Lord, in every situation is going to be crucial. Its something that I have been resting on. To understand the importance of staying at Jesus’ feet, learning his word, humbling serving, asking for his help.
