Preparing to serve Jesus has what feels like the weight of the world on your shoulders. in serving Jesus, we are serving the poor and the needy because we know what we do to the least we do to God. In preparing to serve these people we have to soften our hearts to their needs and represent God well, but also, what we are giving them on these trips is the word of God. I always appreciate Mr. Garner’s connection with letting a surgeon practice giving surgery on you, which no one would let them practice on you, compared to having someone educate the word of God to people, without having the necessary skills or practice to back that up. Educating people in God’s word is more important, yet we do not put as much emphasis on the preparation that needs to take place to do that education.
As we prepare for this trip, it is important to have God’s word stored up on our heart, so that when we go serve the least of these, we are serving in the most sustainable way founded by God’s word.
