#DayOnesies

First day is done! So far this experience has been refreshing. I’m surrounded by my friends and new friends who all have the same goal in mind: to follow Jesus and serve His people. This first day reminded me that I am not alone on this decision to step out in faith and give my summer to God. After seeing pictures, hearing stories and testimonies of those who have come before us in this life of service and discipleship, it encouraged me that God is good and He has a plan. At brunch yesterday we were served by agents of this mission work, those who have been serving in the regions we are going to for 20+ years. We got to see pictures, ask questions, hear stories, and see how the Lord calls people in all stages of life, experiences, personalities, etc. But what’s special is to see how since the first time they said yes, they’ve been faithful to continue — even with the challenges, changes, and loss it’s their faith in Jesus and the fact that He called them that kept them continuing on the trajectory He set before them. It was so encouraging for me going on Summer Internship for the 2nd time now to realize that as long as I keep saying yes in obedience that the Lord will carry me through.

Later that night a small group of girls went to a host home from a family that has been serving in this ministry for over 20 years. We were so blessed by their hospitality and selflessness to serve us. They served us food, a place to sleep, encouraging messages from scripture, stories from their first internship and stories of their walk with God. God sustains and he remains faithful, and I’m confident that as I keep saying yes to God He will meet me and guide me in that calling. I can’t wait to see what all the Lord has in store for this summer. I believe as I continue to serve without fear, alongside people who do the same, that with God we can do amazing things.

SLAM is starting today (Monday) and I can’t wait! We interns are a big part of helping facilitate and put on this program this week. We are all spread out doing our different tasks and roles in order to serve these kids best. Being a SLAM veteran, (I’ve been going since 6th grade) I know it’s always an amazing time where the Lord always meet the youth. Now, being able to be a part of those who facilitate it, it’s so special. Be in prayer for us as we take on the differing responsibilities that we may have hearts of servants ready to show the love of God to these youth! It’s gonna be a great summer:)
