Kamuli Cooked?

This past week we finished up our SLAM Uganda, then left for Kamuli. The drive to Kamuli was long, I have no idea how long it actually was. Once we got there we had a service with them, some of the church members led worship for us, after the worship time we had some of our group do some unplanned testimonies, those people were River, Elijah Lovelace, and Dr. Webb, they probably talked about this in their Kamuli blogs already, but they had no clue they were going up.

After the testimonies we did a dance number and a song, the dance was one we’ve been doing for SLAM and other church visits, and the song we sang for the church in Kamuli was “Oh Happy Day”, which we’ve also been doing for other churches we’ve been to since we got to Africa. After this Mr. Garner gave a short sermon, to end the night we watched a movie of the life of Jesus in Lusoga (a language from Africa).

We slept on the floor in the church which is where the trainees slept last year and lots of the, got sick or hurt or something else, and that’s where the term, “Kamuli Cooked” comes from. This trip to Kamuli I’m happy to say that I didn’t get Kamuli Cooked, I don’t know that anyone did. I actually had a great night of sleep on the floor of the church in Kamuli.

The next morning we started with service and that service consisted of worship led by some of our EA Leadership, and then a short sermon/encouragement by Elijah Lovelace. After the service us guys got ready for a soccer game with the community, we were going to play us interns, some leaders, and a couple of the NFC Kenya guys who we made friends with. The game was really fun, I got to play defense with the captain form NFC Kenya, Jairus, me and him got to bond over the rest of the time that they were with us. A cool thing about the game was that I also got to play with my dad for the first time internationally, and we won our big game, but lost the first mini game to a Jr team from the community in Kamuli.

The entire experience from Kamuli was great for me, we left Kamuli and made our way to Nairobi which is where we are now, we played in a NFC Kenya game, watched a movie with the team, and said our goodbyes to them, now we are getting ready for our next SLAM happening for the first time in our ministry in Mombasa, Kenya.

Im excited for the next steps in the trip, but sad we only have around 2 weeks left, Mr. Garner told us that we just got into our 6th week, I’m not ready for the trip to over, so I’m gonna push a lot more in this last SLAM where were going to have around 140 kids attending.
