On the first day of service projects I went with my home church from back home. We went to Catholic Charities food pantries, and we were instructed to move the food from one room to the other side of the building. we were 10 min in and then I get called by one the main branch directors to help him translate, this was not part of my project, but it is in my skill set so I went with him. I was gone for about 45 min in total, in that time I helped her get registered in the system to receive help, I helped her get food and even got to get her know her story. Strange and love is the two things I prayed the Hispanic women felt after interacting with her we was a mother of 3 kids, one 10, another 8, and the most recent one was a 2 month old, the first 2 were in Guatemala. I remember going back to the group I was in and having the process the rush of emotions I left after assisting the women. After leaving the service project I really was thinking on how many immagrents have the same story and are just alone, then I thought of the people we are going to serve abroad, and how I have been developed by my education to serve all kids of people. And one of the gifts I have is speaking two languages, and how I was able to bridge that gap for two people, and because of it this Hispanic women was able to get her need met. I know I will be utilized aboard and even needed because of this gift, I so excited to bridge two worlds so that me and my team can make a impact on these places as much as they are going to make an impact on us!
