What I got to do here!

Yesterday, our second day of service projects, I got to help put on a kids camp at buffalo trails. I went with kaiden and a group of academy kids, and we lead camp for four hours. I was very tired that day. I have been up early and late leading worship and that day especially I didn’t have a lot of energy, but I really wanted to give all I could to these kids. Through out the time I was praying that the Lord would open my eyes, soften my hearts, and be discerning of the kids we were serving there. As the day went on I really felt God places this one kid on my heart. He was a young boy, often sat alone in the shade, didnt speak much, and wasnt getting much attention from any of the kids. I went to talk with him and hear some of his interests, and he is one of the most intelligent kid I have ever met. We were talking, he has so many dreams, he isn’t shy, he says he’s a deep thinker, and that he likes to take in the moments of quite. Listening to this kids words impacted me so much, even though he didn’t say much he said a lot and you can tell he wants to learn. He saw my Bible in my mini bag and asked me about it. me and him ended up just sitting and I got to tell him stories from the bible, starting in Genesis. He asked questions, he would close his eyes and imagen the stories, and share things he has learned, or what he thinks certain verses meant. He has never heard stories from the bible, he’s gone to church, and he’s heard people talk about it, but he was never able to understand or apply. A phrase he said to me will always stick with me. “Thank you, I never thought the bible could be fun. Can you read me more of the bible tomorrow?” I didn’t get to go back today. But that little boy impacted me more than he knows, and I hope I got to make an impact on him as well. He is only 10, but he is so bright. I am getting to travel around the world this summer, and there will be so many opportunities for me to see kids and be discerning of ways I can meet there needs. and I am excited to do there what I got to do here. Until next time :).
