Three Weeks vs. Three Years

“Do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season we will reap if we do not give up.” Gal 6:9

The contrast between this mini immersion of three weeks of service where we attempted to model Christ and the three years Jesus served in ministry is stark. Yet, I found myself growing weary in such a short period of time. As my friend said, our days were long but the weeks were short.

Our days were long and filled with service projects whether it was teaching at primary schools, building rocket stoves or showers for widows, visiting orphanages, picking up trash, or cleaning up properties. Service projects were followed by deep dives into the word of God allowing us to consider our day in light of the word.

The weeks were short because in doing good, the Lord met us. It was a grueling pace requiring reliance upon the Spirit of God to fill us with his energy. In this, we truly understood Gal. 6:9. Though our bodies grew weary, our spirits were inspired by the lives we touched giving us impetus for the next need.

At the end, we did indeed reap through hugs, tears, and farewells from our EA friends and family as well as those we served. They blessed us so much with their smiles and genuine expressions of love.

So while it was a mere three weeks, it has offered us a little more insight into the life of Jesus. May we continue to know him more and more…
