St John’s school blog

For St. John’s I was in charge of teaching English to p3 students. These are students who’re typically about 8 years old. We taught them basics like nouns and verbs and to lighten up the mood we sang songs with them and taught them a few games. The goal of this was to not just make it a learning session but also an interactive one where they felt free to both acquire knowledge and have fun whilst doing so.

In my group I had Gabbie Maddie and Goretti as the translator for the children. There after we then prepared for them a light lunch. This included rice beans cabbage and fruits and we served them. The children were so happy to receive the food and that was both happy and sad. Happy in the sense of we got to serve them but sad in the sense that it showed us that they don’t get to eat decent meals very often.

This experience was very humbling because it shows you that even the basics we often take for granted are only ours by the grace of God and we should there not boast because in any other world that could have easily been any of us in their situation.

We helped clean up the school, picked up garbage and played with them. We then prayed with them and for them and just shared a few words of scripture and encouragement and told even those with big dreams such as becoming lawyers and doctors that if they truly believed and had utmost faith the lord would indeed make a way for each and every one of them.
