SLAM update

We have now completed 3 SLAM service camps. The first one started in Nashvillie, moving to El Salvador, and then Uganda. Over these camps I started off my first camp getting training and having the camp facilitation modeled for me. Then the second time in El Salvador, I also had it modeled but was able to step into some positions of help more. Before we started our Uganda SLAM camp all of the 1st year interns got assigned a role with a mentor. My mentee role was helping with journalism, under Merci. Going into the camp I was a little nervous , because from what I had hear I felt as if there was little work and I would not have much to do, which I did not want to be the case.

But the day of SLAM I went over my role with Merci, and I got so excited to help out and learn. During the SLAM camp, I learned more about basics of what Merci does and how to navigate the logistics side of it. Helping her with tasks, like organizing camera equipment, charging devices, making sure people have completed different media needs. I enjoyed getting to learn from Merci different skills and help out the team.

One thing that Mr. Garner (our lead facilitator) was teaching out this week, is that it is not for us it is for others. The week required a lot from us, but when we thought out the students lives being impacted the service projects we did, we were filled because we were serving others. We pushed on through exhaustion because we know that we are doing the Lord will, we are serving as Jesus did, being his disciples. Not only did I get to learn a new role but I also got to interact with the students, dance my heart out during praise and worship, and form relationship and stories with the student that I will truly never forget. God did a work in the students heart and in the hearts of our internship team.
