It was such a blessing to serve the students at the service camp in Kabonge. I was especially excited to see familiar faces from last year’s SLAM—people like Patricia, Isaac, and Derek. It was great to reconnect with them, catch up, and hear what God has been doing in their lives.
One of the most meaningful moments was seeing Derek, who attended SLAM last year, return this year as a leader! After participating in the SLAM Leadership Conference, he stepped up to serve during the camp. Using the gift of dance that the Lord has given him, Derek helped lead and bless the students throughout the week.
Serving alongside him was powerful. It was amazing to witness how God used last year’s SLAM as a foundation to raise Derek up into leadership. His journey is such a beautiful picture of empowerment through God’s Word—something we pray for in every student. It’s not about what we’ve done, but about what God has accomplished through our obedience and willingness to follow Him. Because we are all a part of the same body I hope that I can serve along so many of these student I met this year.
