Sharing Life With Others

As we are reaching the end of the trip, I have noticed many different emotions. People can be filled with joy, hangry, stressed, or even just tired. These emotions make people’s actions change and I have really noticed that in this trip. On this trip, there have been many experiences where people have to come back and talk through a situation that happened before.

At the beginning of internship, there were sometimes people getting hurt. I was often the one to go help and always have the supplies. Back in El Sal, many people cut themselves and I would be there to get them band-aids and make sure it didn’t get infected. Then later on, we were playing a soccer game in El Sal and an El Sal player collided with one of our players. They bounced their faces off each other. I was over helping him get checked out. After that, Mr. Garner came up to me and asked me if I ever thought about going into the medical field. That is something that has stuck with me throughout this trip.

While in Africa, we hosted a SLAM conference in Mombasa. This SLAM was only 2 1/2 days long. That meant we only got one full day of service projects. I went out on a service project to build a shower room for a widow. We had a girl on our team that wasn’t feeling good. She told me she had an upset stomach so I had her sit down. I went back and started to play with the little kids that were around while the boys were building the shower.

Throughout Internship, I have had to learn to go back and talk through some situations. They might have been as small as hoping I didn’t come off as rude or as big as yelling at someone to make sure they understand. I have also had to learn to trust what people say even though sometimes it’s hard.
