This week in Kenya was short short, but so so sweet! There were many obstacles we had to work around in challenges that came up while trying to facilitate and lead this camp, get the Lord did such an amazing work.
I knew that the Lord is going to do something special when we first showed up to the place where slam was being held. Because weirdly enough, I’ve had a dream about this place about a year ago. I’m still unsure what the dream meant fully in connection to this week, but what I did know is that God was present and ready to do an amazing work in these youth.
As a team, we reflected on the week afterwards, talking about how they were a tough group to talk to at first. But throughout the next day with intentional time and prayer, devotion, service, and glorifying God throughout the day I believe God did some preparation work for their hearts to be worked on during that night session.
That night session while the word was spoken by Mr. Garner, hearts were being cultivated and softened by the way God’s word was being used as a tool of education and change. These kids were hungry. During the gift of testimonies at the end of the week, you could hear the word spilling out of them, the hunger increasing, and their heart‘s being changed simply because of the word of God.
I got to talk to some kids throughout the few days we had with them and God truly worked in their hearts, in a life giving reviving way. They testified they can’t go back to their homes without seeing how they can serve and love on their neighbors, or how they can’t wait to learn more about God‘s word so that they can Apply it to their lives and teach it how they saw it being done during this camp. I’m so thankful for the faithfulness of God to create opportunities like this for youth, who otherwise would not have had the lights turned on for them in this way.
