Kumli Village

After our SLAM service camp in Uganda we traveled to a small undeveloped village called Kamuli Village for a church service, big soccer game and a VBS camp with the kids in the community.

When we arrived we had a time to praise & worship and then a short sermon followed by a movie that we brought to watch with them & it was even in their own language. Everyone was so sweet and so welcoming & being able to feel Gods presence in the area that night made everything so much more special. After the movie we set up tents for us to sleep in for the night and called it “Tent City”. We got a few hours of rest before waking up for another amazing day.

The next morning we woke up to music and we all spent some time in prayer getting ready for all the activities of the day to come together. We had breakfast and prepared to start a church service for the community to attend. During the service Elijah Lovelace spoke for the sermon and it was so moving. He preached on Romans 12:3- how each person has something to offer & that God will reveal it to you as you become more of a Child of God. Everyone has a gift and he reminded us that our gifts don’t start out fully developed- we have to pray and practice them. He emphasized that God has a place for everyone and that God did not create you to be someone else- He created you to be YOU. This was something that was so powerful and encouraging to hear.

After our service we went to the soccer field to play a game with our NFC Kenya team and their team. Everyone from the community was there so we had around 1,000 people at the game. I was sitting in the grass with some of the kids and we tried to talk the best we could with the language barrier we had. Most of the kids had very worn out clothes and shoes, and some of them had very distended bellies. Seeing that was very heavy for me but i know being there with them and being intentional with them was something they all loved and appreciated. During the game it started to rain a little so I got my umbrella out and we all huddled under it. Once the game was over we invited everyone to the church for lunch our team made and served to those who attended. There were so many kids that it made our very short VBS time with them so special. We taught them some songs and showed them our dance after everyone had a filling meal.

Even though we were only there for a day, Cumuli Village is a place we served that I will forever be praying for and I will never forget about. The kids touched my heart so deeply and they were all so amazing.
