It’s day #6, SLAM just ended! There were so many great things that happened in, me, the SLAM kids, the interns, and more. It was a great way for the intro to internship, and after SLAM finished I just got excited for the rest of the things to come throughout this summer in all the places were going to be. Although we finished the first week of internship (almost), we still haven’t hit Boot Camp yet, and that’s making me a little nervous but I know it’ll be something to prepare us for the intensive things we’re going to be doing throughout the summer.
Testimonies were my favorite part of the day, it was the last thing set for SLAM, all us interns and SLAM kids had just come back from the Hermatige Strike and Spare. We welcomed the kids in for the last time jumping, yelling, and swinging around glowstick things. Mr. Garner (our speaker for the week) started us off with a short encouragement, and we got into testimony time. These kid’s testimonies were so powerful, they spoke about the things they saw in kids life’s during kids camps that they could take them from, and let the kids be kids, testimonies on the ideas for the future; in coming back to see those kids and serve together, AND MUCH MORE.
I think one of the biggest things I learned in service throughout this SLAM is that the importance of an understanding between teammates is one of the most vulnerable things. During service projects, I would sometimes have days where I had made or had a good relationship or dynamic with the group, and those days went well, and we could work together efficiently. There were also days where I forgot to or sometimes didn’t want to open up with and ask questions to understand and learn about the kids I was working with, and those days things were harder because there was less communication, and because of that more time was wasted.
