I have heard about the drive from Uganda to Kenya before, but this was my first time experiencing it. It was LONG. I honestly don’t know how many hours it took us, but I have heard before that it is an 18 hour trip. As we drove I slept some, Mr Garner taught some and gave us some history and culture lessons on the country, and then I just spent time thinking and praying. As the sun rose and I watched the new landscape pass by my bus window I was so grateful that I got the opportunity to go to this new country and see the homes of so many of my friends.
The terrain looks similar to Uganda, but the dirt is more black vs red. There are more donkeys than cows. There are sheep and shepherds sleeping on the hills. There seems to be more grass. And from what I can tell, we have only been in the city of Nairobi so far, but Kenya seems like a wealthier and more developed country. The shops and billboards all look more modern and American, and they are a little more organized.
I am so excited and prayerful for how the Lord will use our time here to bless and develop His people here and His kingdom on earth. So far we have watched an NFC Kenya Futbol match (this is the Futbol team GOD Intl created to address the boy-child problem in Kenya), and celebrated with the team all last night. Fellowshipping, learning their stories, and enjoying life with them. Please be in prayer for our upcoming SLAM Service Week here in Kenya that we will be putting on this week. Pray for us Interns as a team. For our East Africans leaders as they learn more about the ministry and develop the capacity to carry it out without us here.
