One thing that I’ve been learning throughout this trip is that the youth that I am serving through these SLAM service camps in EL Salvador, Uganda and Kenya are truly the people who are going to inherit the kingdom of God.
It is so important that they get educated in Gods word. God doesn’t want us to be simple people. When people are simple they are easily manipulated and guided down the wrong path, but when they become educated in the word of God they become complex people who can’t be shaken because their confidence comes from their knowledge of Gods word.
These people need God in a different way than anyone from a first world country needs him. They pray before every meal asking God to bless their food because if that food makes them sick then they can’t work. They genuinely depend on God to survive while if we didn’t know God then we would still live comfortably.
It is our responsibility to lower ourselves so that these precious people can be lifted up. We can’t be like the rich man, we need to empty ourselves. These people are already broken as a result of their environment, they depend on God. Because of this, they are the good soil that will inherit the kingdom of God. God brings us down with the responsibility to educate and he lifts them up so they can receive the inheritance that is theirs.
My conviction after learning this is that I need to gain a deeper understanding of Gods word. I need to be diligent in my study of the Bible to gain substantial knowledge of it so that the spirit of God can move through me to lift the poor up.
