Hello All,
SLAM service camps, which the internship team have been facilitating all over the world this summer, are a massive undertaking. Having been a SLAM participant in the past, the leaders do a brilliant job of keeping the program moving, ensuring the experience is quality. It all happens in the background though. I never realized quite how much work goes into making a service week happen but it is immense.
Even just my one role with SLAM this summer (AV) has been a lot, especially in the developing world setting where things like limited power or weather can derail your plans. The perspective I’ve gained from working on the back end of SLAM has been extremely valuable though. It’s so vital that we are careful and cognizant of how we-both as individuals and a group-impact the whole of the SLAM week.
Leadership in SLAM requires a lot from the person. You have to be cognizant of what’s happening and what needs to happen, observant and aware of the students and the people you are working with, conscious of time, and most vitally, sensitive to God and his word.
It’s been really great on the back end of SLAM to see this in action and it’s greatly developed my perspective of leadership.
God bless our leaders.
In Christ,
Tyler
