A typical day on Summer Internship in East Africa looks like waking up around 7 or 7:30am for a time of worship, prayer, and a short devotional. I’ve been blessed to hear from my leaders and hear encouragements from them. This time is facilitated by them as well – both our East African leadership and our American leadership. Starting the day with prayer has been incredibly beneficial as it has now become a part of who I am because at my school, The Institute for GOD, we start our mornings the same way: joint prayer!
Afterwards, we take 30-45 minutes to get ready for our day. This looks like packing up sleeping bags, changing clothes, brushing our teeth, spending more time in the word, or even journaling.
After morning preparations are finished, we (leaders, interns, and anyone else involved in our group) eat breakfast together. Table fellowship has been a big emphasis this year on Summer Internship as it is a time for us to have conversations and really engage with each other in a way we see Jesus commonly do.
Once breakfast is finished, depending on our current agenda, we would head straight into a SLAM session of worship and sermon, then into service projects. We also have had a variety of different types of events, so our routine is constantly changing into something new. However, we will always have a Bible study together as interns with either Mr. Garner or another one of our leaders.
