Rooted in the Word, United in Friendship

During my Immersion 2 in the Philippines last year, I had the opportunity to meet those that are working with GOD Int’l in-country. It was such a joy to meet and serve alongside them. Even though I hadn’t met many of them before, we shared so much in common—our age, interests, occupations, and, most importantly, a desire to learn and live out our education in God’s Word. These shared values laid the foundation for friendships to begin, despite our different cultures, families, and upbringings.

At the end of Immersion 2, the leaders of our trip strongly encouraged us to stay in contact. I took that advice to heart, and each week, I video-called the friends I had made. Early in the morning in America and late at night in the Philippines, we would connect and share about our week and the ministries we were involved in. These times were incredibly encouraging as we testified to what we were learning in our classes, celebrated how we saw the Lord working and moving, and shared our prayer requests. Because of this, I remained faithful in praying for my friends and the incredible work happening in the Philippines.

As I began praying about this summer, the Lord kept bringing my friends and co-laborers in the kingdom of God to mind. Reflecting on this, I was inspired by the leaders in our ministry, who have modeled what it looks like to build deep, lasting friendships with families around the world—relationships that were foundational in starting this ministry. I felt excited about the opportunity to form those same kinds of meaningful connections with our ministry partners. Seeing the beautiful relationships our leaders have formed, I felt a responsibility to continue that legacy. The people who make up our ministry are our greatest asset, and investing in one another is what will sustain the work God has begun.

When I landed here this year, we were able to pick up right where we left off. Our conversations have been centered around God’s Word, and our time together has been filled with service. I’m so thankful for these friends and our shared desire to give all that we are to the Lord. It’s a gift to continue growing in this ministry together as we grow older. I’m grateful to run alongside faithful servants of the Lord as we continue to find our purpose and motivation in God’s Word and become quick to lift one another up in prayer.
