When we arrived at the campus in Uganda, we were welcomed with many Ugandan dances. We also had many worship sessions. They didn’t waste a second and started dancing. That was when I knew that they loved to dance.
While at SLAM, we had a few free time points. During each free time, I grabbed a speaker and started playing music. The students were waiting for me to start the music. They danced for the whole free time. They got to play their own songs and create their own moves. One night, I grabbed the speaker and started playing music. Not as many students showed up but a wonderful group showed up. They started choreographing a dance. A young boy was the leader and he was making up moves as he was going. They taught me the dance also. I learned that my feet don’t move as fast as theirs. I could keep up with the motions but not the feet. It was really fun.
I also went to a school. At this school, we had to teach P.E. to P1-P3. We choose dance as one of the activities. These kids were between 6 and 9. The school had people play music over a big speaker. The kids started dancing right away. They would make up moves and other kids would copy. It was amazing at how even being so young they have amazing dance moves.
Through watching them and the interns, I have learned that Ugandans really love to dance. It amazed me at how good they are with dancing, even the little kids.
