Service is a key aspect of following Jesus. In Jesus’ life he gives us the example to serve the people around you, and specifically those without, who are lacking, vulnerable, and marginalized. Being apart of God’s Nu Nation (1 Peter 2:9) means we have to live out God’s agenda. Service is a way for us to be a light to the other nations, doing good work for people to see and give glory to God.
During internship I have served fellow interns, SLAM students, and the most impactful, a widow named Fatuma. I got to help build her a kitchen and rocket stove. Not only did we provide service through our work, I got to talk with her and make her feel loved and cared for through prayer and getting to know her.
This service was not just about building something, it was about showing God’s love and being an example for others to serve those around them.
