Matthew 25:35 “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me…”
It seems there is a consistent theme throughout internship. We go to serve and care for the poverty stricken and they change us in some way every time.
We arrived in a rural village north of Kamuli where a church service was taking place. No musical instruments or sound equipment, just the sweet beauty of their voices raised in song! I wondered if heaven must sound similar. We joined in, gave testimony, danced, sang, and listened to a message from the word.
We stayed overnight and the following morning some participated in a soccer match while others of us helped prepare food to feed the community. They followed our team back from the soccer field. More than 500 men, women, and children were fed!
We served them rather than having them walk through a food line with the hope of modeling the service life of Jesus. While so many were poorly dressed and malnourished, their resilience in the face of such circumstances, their faces, and their smiles are images that will remain with me for the rest of my life.
