Serving for SLAM Kabonge was a life changing experience. Interacting with these kids from various areas and walks of life and serving with them was eye opening . I learnt humility, serving and to put others before myself.
I was assigned a tent to be in charge of , and i helped guide and lead those in my tent with their day to day activities and also getting them to open up about their background and share more about some of the challenges they faced.
I really got to see life from a different angle and also learnt to be more appreciative of even the little things which we often take for granted. The Bible studies were also very helpful and I learnt from Mr. Garner to always put texts into contexts to help better my understanding of the Bible.
For service projects we built a shower area for a widow under the supervision of pastor Jack. It was very challenging since none of us had prior construction experience but we got the hang of it eventually. We then engaged in short conversation with her and got to know her story which was truly sad I must say ,but we then gave her words of encouragement to stay strong and trust in the Lord even through her storm and that ultimately Jesus would prevail:
