Something that really stuck out to me when it comes to cultural differences is how in America we are very time oriented, while in Uganda the people are event oriented. I saw this a lot when leading our slam week, it was very hard to stick to the schedule we created. I even saw it with my friends from Uganda, they would always ask me why we were so rushed, or why we have to be ready in under 10 minutes. This experience has taught me that we have to always be flexible, to not get my mind to fixated on the schedule because most always it will change.
Another thing that stuck out to me is how important dance is to the Ugandan cultural. I will never be able to worship the same when I get back to America lol. In Uganda there is a section called praise, and then a section called worship. Praise are songs that are upbeat, and every time people come to the front and start dancing, leading dances, pulling you up to lead dances, its the best. It really is a way you can connect with people. I made two very good friends, and both I connected with through dancing, and praising.
There are definitely more, but these are the two that really stuck out to me this trip so far. I have learned a lot when It comes to being flexible, and being able to switch things up. I also learned a lot when it comes to expression, and how moving our bodies through dance communicates a lot, music and dance really brings people together. I have learned so much on this trip and I can not waiiiittt to keep going with the last couple weeks. Keep praying for us as we finished up. Until next time ;).
